Job Description
Product Family Support Tech (PFST) is a software engineering team within Japan Store Tech that partners with Amazon Japan’s retail business to build unique shopping experiences for Japanese customers. The team works across the full spectrum of Japan Retail and operates at the intersection of global Amazon technology and locally-driven product innovation.
As a Software Development Engineer (SDE) on the PFST team, you will design, build, and operate customer-facing and internal services that power Amazon Japan’s retail product experiences. You will work directly with product teams, contribute to architecture decisions, and help solve complex, Japan-unique challenges using global Amazon infrastructure.
This is a full-stack role in a broad sense, involving backend services, frontend experiences, and integration across a large ecosystem of Amazon systems. You will be expected to operate independently, lead features end-to-end, and contribute to the team’s technical standards through code reviews and design feedback.
Key Job Responsibilities
Your primary responsibilities include designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining distributed software solutions independently. These solutions span various technical stacks and domains, including web applications, backend services, cloud architecture, and machine learning.
You will work directly with technical and business teams, both locally and worldwide, to understand business problems and design solutions.
A Day in the Life
- Attending daily standups, either in person or remotely, to provide status updates.
- Working on technical design documents to drive consensus between the internal team and stakeholders.
- Spending uninterrupted time developing software.
- Learning about new cloud technologies.
Basic Qualifications
- Completed a Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or related STEM fields.
- Graduated within the last 24 months.
- Demonstrated experience with at least one general-purpose programming language, such as Java, Python, C++, C#, Go, Rust, or TypeScript.
- Demonstrated experience in data structures implementation, basic algorithm development, or object-oriented design principles.
Preferred Qualifications
- AI tools for development productivity.
- Cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
- Database systems, including SQL and NoSQL.
- Contributing to open-source projects.
- Version control systems.
- Debugging and troubleshooting complex systems.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly.
- Basic understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
